AT3132 - Crop Modeling

Main objective of the course:  The aim of this course is to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge and skills in simulation of crop growth and yield, soil and plant water relations, nutrient and carbon dynamics and their application to real world problems.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students should be able to

  • Explain the topology of models and overall principles of processed – based model
  • Describe the basic concepts of modeling crops-weather-soil-management relationship and interaction
  • ·Demonstrate various components in a selected system model (APSIM/DSSAT) file system to simulate the potential production
  • Calibrate the selected system model (APSIM) for genetic coefficients from sample data sets
  • Evaluate the calibrated model using statistical approaches
  • Simulate the crop growth and development under real world scenarios
  • Explain the importance of cropping system modelling to sustainable crop production
